On September 22, 2015, the headquarters of the American Institute for Physical Research and Protection System Certification (AAHRPP) officially announced that the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University had obtained the “Full Accreditation” of the highest level of the system, which is valid for 3 years. Our institute became the second comprehensive top-three hospital in China with the certification qualification.
In order to improve the quality of clinical research in our hospital, and in line with international standards for clinical research, under the active care of the leaders of our institute and the team, we have established a major national science and technology project for the development of new technologies for major new drug discovery. With the support of the company, we have established an effective Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) for 3 years. In May 2013 to February 2014, our institute carried out self-assessment according to AAHRPP standards and prepared certification information. The first and second phases of application materials were submitted in May 2014 and January 2015 respectively. After a rigorous review of the AAHRPP, on-site inspections of AAHRPP experts were accepted from May 4th to May 6th, 2015. During the on-site inspection, inspection experts from the United States gave AAHRPP certification work in our hospital through interviews with relevant departments of the clinical research subjects protection system of the hospital management department, ethics committees, and related personnel of the research team and inspection of the work records. Highly affirmed and made some suggestions. After the on-site inspection, our institute carried out relevant improvement work according to AAHRPP's standards and inspection feedback opinions, and submitted an on-site inspection reply report in June 2015. The "Full Accreditation" was finally obtained at the AAHRPP headquarters in September.
Acquiring AAHRPP certification is an important step toward the internationalization of clinical research in our hospital. It has created a strong foundation for the development of high-level international multi-center clinical research and has enhanced the core competitiveness and influence of our hospital in clinical research. This time, our hospital has obtained the highest international AAHRPP certification, which will further promote the development of the clinical research system in our hospital, improve the ethics review level of the ethics committee, ensure the health and welfare of the subjects in human research, and promote the clinical research professionals. We will continue to improve the quality and level of clinical research in our hospital.
Attachment: The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Program (AAHRPP) was established in 2001 to promote high-quality and standardized clinical research. AAHRPP represents the highest standard of global human research. To date, 215 medical teaching institutions including NIH have obtained AAHRPP certification.
For newly-approved organizations, the AAHRPP certification results are divided into the following four types: Full Accreditation, Qualified Accreditation, Accreditation-Pending, and Accreditation Withheld.
