The major international cooperation project on bioethics co-hosted by Yale University and our university has once again received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Today, a good news came from the Yale University in the United States. The Masters Level Bioethics Program at Central South University in Changsha, China was co-hosted by Professor Tian Yongquan of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and Professor Kaveh Khoshnood of Yale University School of Public Health. Received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The funding period of the project is 5 years (2017.06.01-2022.05.31), and the amount of funding is 1.2 million US dollars. The main purpose is to establish an international, sustainable, interdisciplinary education mechanism for bioethics at Central South University. The bioethics short-term certification training model establishes a comprehensive human research protection system and establishes a specialized leading training institution at the Central Medical Ethics Research Center of Central South University.

This project is a rolling grant based on the "Research Ethics Training and Curriculum Development Program with China" (2011-2016, US$1.2 million funded) project co-chaired by Professor Tian Yongquan and Professor Kaveh Khoshnood. In the first five years, the project helped our university set up an internationalized medical ethics research center; based on resources of Yale University, it established an international ethics curriculum system suitable for graduate students of medical science; Undertake education and training of experts in bio-ethics related fields; hold many influential medical ethics courses and seminars in Xiangya regularly; guide Xiangya Third Hospital of Central South University to pass international AAHRPP certification; Central South University Xiangya Public School of Health, Xiangya Nursing College of Central South University established an ethics committee with international standards.

This rolling grant is another major breakthrough for our university's international cooperation in the field of medical ethics research. This topic will further build a systematic and comprehensive training for medical ethics and large-scale international cooperation in the construction of ethics committees. The platform further deepens the international cooperation between Yale University and Central South University, and promotes the cross integration and development of clinical medicine and medical ethics.
