On August 24th, the 2014-Xiangya AAHRPP Certification Symposium (DIA China Ethics School) jointly organized by the Medical Ethics Research Center of Central South University and the Third Xiangya Hospital was successfully held at the Third Xiangya Hospital.
The AAHRPP is called the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Program. It is an independent non-profit certification organization of the United States. The AAHRPP certification represents the highest standard of global human research protection and aims to promote high quality and standardized clinical research and promotes protection of subjects during human research. At present, more than 200 high-level medical institutions worldwide have passed this certification, including two domestic medical institutions. The Third Xiangya Hospital is currently applying for AAHRPP certification. Through the application and implementation of this certification, the hospital will establish a high-level international clinical research system to promote the further improvement of hospital clinical research.
Dr. Sarah H. Kiskaddon, Head of Global Business Development and Public Affairs, AAHRPP, made two keynote presentations: "Establishing and Maintaining a Strong Human Research Protection System" and "Quality Improvement and AAHRPP Standards." Dr. Wang Xiuqin, Director of Ethics of Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital, made a speech of"Academic report on risk assessment and management of clinical research" which was followed by a special discussion on the "AHR PPP certification in China facing problems and challenges."
A brief opening ceremony was held before the academic report. Yuan Hong, Deputy Dean ofthe Third XiangyaHospital, presided over, Tian Yongquan, vice president of Central South University, and Luo Aijing, party secretary of the Third Xiangya Hospital made important speeches. More than 20 researchers from more than 20 medical institutions in Beijing, Wuhan, Xi'an and Haikou attended the seminar.
